Ike Turner… Little Richard… Papa Lightfoot… Freddie King… Johnny Ace… Blaze Starr… Candy Barr… Lili St. Cyr. They all connect here in this series of paintings. Having heard tales of the RnB stars of the past, I’ve brought some to life. True Stories… Maybe.
The Bourbon Street stage stilletos of the ecdysiasts were imprinted on me at an early age. Sneaking into the 500 Club and Gunga Den. Sitting at the bar the first items I saw were the shoes. The best N.O. RnB bands were backing them up. Earl Palmer. Lee Allen. I’m still in love with the rhythm and the shoes.
